Our Own Two Hands

OUR OWN TWO HANDS GIVING RECIPIENTS;

  Our Own Two Hands Board of Directors meet quarterly to discuss and decide on a person or organization that change the world utilizing THEIR OWN TWO HANDS.

July 2009 - We received 5 submissions this quarter, all were very worthy. We decided on Ted Burton of the Mountain View High School Band in Bend Oregon for the Band Exchange Program. The High School Bands of Bend, Oregon and Kogane HS, Japan host and travel to each others cities to perform. Each year the "traveling" band assumes the cost of the airfare, while the "hosting" band provides room and board, as well as rehearsal and concert facilities. The High School Students enjoy experiencing the cultural differences and similiarities of their host countries.

  The Board of Directors chose this organization that changes the world through sharing music, culture, and friendships.
The amount of $167.13 was sent recently.

 Nov 2009 - We decided on the individual in the organization "WE'VE GOT TIME TO HELP." Seth Reams. Seth Reams and Michelle King created this wonderful group of people who have the following mission;
We’ve Got Time to Help’s mission is to serve the entire community, no matter their race, sex, color, creed, sexual orientation, political affiliation, age or economic status. We support our neighbors through multi-faceted contributions to communities, none too big or too small, and strive to assist those in need with respect, compassion, caring and understanding. We want to encourage the people of Portland, OR and surrounding communities to truly make a difference in the lives of others through dedication and commitment to volunteer efforts and to bring a sense of community back to our neighborhoods.
Also, this is WHO they are;
We are a group of people that have found some extra time on our hands. Most of us have been laid off and are having a tough time finding a job in this awful economy. We are using a small portion of that time to make our entire community a better place. We are willing to help out anyone in need using our experience and skills. We donate time, energy, equipment and services to anyone less fortunate. We realize that every single one of us has something to offer. Every person on Earth has a skill or some experience that can help someone else. In these dark times, we need to stand together, act together and help one another in our greatest time of need. Please see our mission statement below.We are giving $500.00 to the organization this quarter.

Feb 2010 - Our giving this month is to Wayne Elsey, the founder of Soles4Souls giving shoes. Soles4Souls is a Nashville-based charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 5.5 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes (currently donating one pair every 9 seconds.) The shoes have been distributed to people in over 125 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States. We are giving Wayne $250.00 in recognition of his compassion and making a difference.
